Gene Benjamin

(1941 - 2011)

 

Gene A. Benjamin, 70 of Oakford passed away on November 19, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born July 13, 1941 in Mansfield, LA, the son of James and Aldie (Lister) Benjamin.

 

Gene is survived by his wife of 17 years Sandy (Damm) Benjamin, daughters Sherrie Terrill of Davis, OK; Deeanna Clemens of Mason City, IL; Jeannie (Eric) Brady of Mahomet, IL; Tracy (Travis) Setzer of Greenview, IL and Jennifer (Brandon) Crowl of Auburn, IL. Grandchildren J.J. Evans, Kayla Brady, Candace Damm, Morgan Clemens, Jacob Setzer, Taylor Setzer, Jackson Setzer, Blake Crowl, Caleb Crowl, Evan Benjamin Crowl and one great-grandchild Brooklyn Miller. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Jerry Benjamin.

 

Gene was a member of the Community Fellowship Church in Petersburg. He retired in March of 1999 after 28 years of service at Dayton Tire in Oklahoma. After retirement, he worked for the Menard County Sherriff’s Department as a dispatcher and jailer. He then worked as a manager at the Petersburg Super Wash until September 3, 2011.

 

Gene served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He served 13 working in communications with the Army.

 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Dan Boyer of the Community Fellowship Church, 401 W. Lincoln Ave., Petersburg, officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to Memorial Hospice or to the Community Fellowship Church.

 

The family was assisted by the Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg.
