Dorothy Elizabeth Loeffler
1923-2012

Dorothy Elizabeth Loeffler of Mason City, formerly of Petersburg, passed away on February 27, 2012 at Mason City Area Nursing Home. She was born April 3, 1923 to Karl and Gladys Carls Hager in Cass County, IL. She married Lloyd “Newt” Loeffler on August 5, 1944 in Long Beach, CA. He preceded her in death on December 18, 2008.
Mrs. Loeffler is survived by two daughters, Karen (Jim) Miller of Mason City and Marilyn (Gary) Whitley of Oakford. She has three grandchildren, Kristen Miller and Jamie Miller of Mason City, and Kyra (Brad) Taylor of Williamsville. She also has four great-grandchildren, Noah Miller, Clay Miller Markley, Reese Miller Markley, and Cael Taylor. She is survived by one sister, Alberta Fox of Springfield and two brothers, Bill Hager of Sherman and Bob Hager of Ashland. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Mrs. Loeffler worked alongside her husband for many years in their farming operation in Menard and Cass Counties. After farming, she worked at Brinner Brothers Furniture in Petersburg. They loved socializing with friends. Dorothy and Newt often entertained at their cabin at Patterson Bay and later Matanzas Beach, frying fish they had caught. They could often be found at local events with his fish frying rig serving catfish and buffalo to long lines of people. They loved fishing, boating, and mushroom hunting along the Illinois River. In addition to spending time with family and friends, she was a fantastic cook and enjoyed watching Illini basketball. She was an avid Cardinals fan.
Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be Friday, March 2, 2012 at 11:00 am at Hurley Funeral Home, with visitation one hour before.
