Earl "Weasel" Tucker
1922-2010
Earl “Weasel” Tucker, 88, of Mason City, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at the Mason City Area Nursing Home in Mason City. He was born to Vernon and Annie Tucker on September 14, 1922.
Earl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy J. Tucker, of Mason City, his daughter, Camille (Tom) Massey of Springfield, and his son, Alan (Karen) Tucker. He had four grandchildren, Matthew Massey of Springfield, Anna (Joe) Schiermann of St. Louis, Missouri, Jeffrey Tucker of Peoria, and Jenna Tucker of Peoria. He is also survived by his sister, Pauline Milby, of Mason City. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dean Tucker, and his sister, Alice Golichnik.
Earl was a long time businessman in Mason City and retired in 1984 from his trucking company that he founded. He was a member of the Jackson-Keen Post #496 of the American Legion. He was a Navy veteran who survived in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters throughout WWII as a destroyer man and had the distinction of having been on two ships that were sunk.
As an avid Cub fan, Earl was always was ready to “wait until next year.” He enjoyed working with animals, working in the garden, and he especially loved Mason City and Illinois Central High School basketball.
He was a kind, loyal and attentive husband to Dorothy and a role model to his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be at the Mason City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Mason City Area Nursing Home, Jackson-Keen Post # 496 of the American Legion, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
