Howard "Nub" Tomlin (1920-2010)
Howard Clayton “Nub” Tomlin, 89, of Mason City, died at 12:55pm on Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Mason City Area Nursing Home. He was born on May 7, 1920 the son of Fred J. and Ada V. (Vennium) Tomlin in Mason County. He married Thelma R. Van Horn on March 12, 1949 in Mason City, she survives. Survivors are his wife, one brother: Harold V. Tomlin of Easton, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Mr. Tomlin was a farmer, a member of the Easton United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #653, and a life member of the National Rifle Association, Jackson Keen Post 496 and VFW Post 6408. He served in the United States Navy during WWII as an Electrician 1st Class, serving aboard the USS Denver from 1942-1945 in the South Pacific, and he was a member of the USS Denver Association. He also was in the Naval Reserves for four years. Funeral services will be at 11:00am, Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Hurley Funeral Home. Pastor Al Sample will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be at the Mason City cemetery. Memorials may be left to his church or to Mason City Area Nursing Home. Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of arrangements.
