John Bernard

John Bernard, 64, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on August 13, 1947 in Springfield, IL to John Wilford and Iva Louise (Jones) Bernard.

He is survived by his devoted partner of 17 years, Linda Friend of Springfield; daughter, Kimberly (Chris) Sparks of New Orleans, LA; son, Ryan Bernard of Petersburg; two sisters, Tequilla Maxheimer of O’Fallon, IL, and Deborah Jordan of Concord, CA; and two grandchildren, Brennan and Mackenzie Bourgeois.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Bernard worked for IBM in Springfield as a systems engineer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Springfield, and he loved hunting and fishing. He and Linda farmed and raised garlic and other vegetables for numerous years.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg with the Rev. Dan Roseberry officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service. Cremation rites have been accorded.
