Judith Thomas

(1944 - 2011)

Judith Mae (Gillmore) Thomas, 67, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on June 27, 1944 in Oakford, IL to Harry and Violet (Knowles) Pedigo.  She graduated from Petersburg Harris High School in 1963.  She married Robert L. (Bob) Gillmore on August 3, 1963.  He preceded her in death on February 12, 1992.  She found love again and married James (Jim) Thomas on November 27, 1999.

She is survived by her husband Jim Thomas; one sister Mildred (Gleason) McHenry of Springfield; one daughter, Ruth (Gillmore) Gentry of Petersburg; one son, Bobby (Julie) Gillmore of Petersburg;  3 Stepchildren; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. 

Judy was preceded in death by her first husband; infant daughter Judy; and both parents.

Judy co-owned and operated several local businesses over the years.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and will always be remembered as a fun-loving, caring woman full of life and laughter, who was always willing to give of herself and her time.  She will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at  11 am at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Visitation will be on Friday, October 28, 2011 from  6 pm till 8pm at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
