Mildred Orum

(1924 - 2012)

Our angel, Mildred Irene Orum, 87, of Athens passed away with family and friends on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on June 29, 1924 in Menard County, IL to Ralph and Bertha (Garrett) Denton. She married Carl A. Orum on September 7, 1940. He preceded her in death on February 24, 2002.

Mildred’s loving spirit lives on in her two sons, John (Margo) Orum of Burksville, KY and Jim (Melinda) Orum of Athens; a sister, Elsie; seven grandchildren, Greg (Chelle) Orum of Greenview, IL,  Julie Clemens of Burksville, KY, Randy (Brenda) Edwards of Topeka, KS, Dee (Bob) Burton of Springfield, IL,  Dan (Jen) Orum of Elmhurst, IL, Lisa (Rocco) Cipriano of Crest Hill, IL, and Katie (Rob) Buckley of LeRoy, IL; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Janet Edwards; grandson, Matthew; and two sisters, Margaret and Helen.

Mildred was a homemaker and assisted with the family farming operation. She had been a faithful member of Irish Grove Church and a member of Menard County Helping Hands. Mildred’s loving spirit was evident in how she celebrated life until the end.

Funeral services to celebrate her loving spirit in which she lived her life will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 11:00 am at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg with Rev. Dan Roseberry officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 3:00 pm till 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Mildred will be laid to rest at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Sweetwater.
