Richard Pfetzing Hurley
1920 - 2011

Richard Pfetzing Hurley, 90, of
Havana, passed away at 5:40 p.m., Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at OSF – St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born October 18, 1920 in Havana to Grover Cleveland and Bula M. (Pfetzing)
Hurley. He married Winifred L. Friedrich on November 20, 1941. She preceded him
in death on July 31, 2003.
Mr. Hurley is survived by one son,
Jerry (Janis) Hurley of Havana, daughter, Ann Bacon of Pekin, five
grandchildren, Elizabeth Bacon, Michael (Kate) Hurley, Carol Ann (Dave) Hurley
Bridge, Gretchen Bacon and Peter Bacon as well as his beloved dog Boomer. He was
preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother E. Jay Hurley and son-in-law
Dean Bacon.
Mr. Hurley was a member of St.
Barnabas Episcopal Church in Havana. He served in the US Army in the European
Theatre during WWII. During the war he was a surgical tech with the 108th
Evac Hospital, having received his training at Walter Reed General Hospital in
Washington D.C. He was a member of Havana Legion Post #138 and VFW Post #6408 as
well as Havana Lodge #88 AF&AM and Ansar Shrine. He was also a member of Ducks
Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.
Mr. Hurley owned and operated
Hurley Funeral Home in Havana from the time he was discharged from the Army
until his death. He had also served as Mason County Coroner from 1948 until
1976.
Funeral services will be held at
St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Havana at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12,
2011. Visitation will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana from 3:00
until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Burial will follow the services at Laurel
Hill Cemetery in Havana. Fr. James Fedosuk will officiate.

Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church or Mason
