Vernon W. F. Oest 73 of 1222 N. St. Hwy. 100 Astoria, IL died on June 11, 2005 at 8:12 a.m. at the Havana Healthcare Center. He was born on March 21,1932 in Bath, IL. to John L. F. Oest and Elizabeth Annabelle Koehne and married Berenice Waino Hamm on April 18, 1976 and she survives.

He has 2 step sons- Ronald (Rosemary) Hamm of Peoria, IL., and Donnie (Pam) Hamm of Peoria, IL.. He also has 2 step daughters- Sue (Gary) Tarvin of Astoria, IL., and Marilyn Ford of Canton, IL.. Also surviving are several nieces, great nieces & nephews, cousins, step grandchildren & step great-grandchildren. He also has three brothers surviving- Alvin (Shirley) Oest of Topeka, IL., Donald Oest of Ellisville, IL., and Kenneth (Bessie) Oest of Havana, IL.. He was preceeded in death by 1 brother- John, 1 sister- Emma, and his parents.

He was a 30 year member of Twin Forks Hunting Club of Quiver Creek, Mason County, Trustee for Kerton Twp., Fulton Co. Treasurer & Trustee of Hickory-Kerton Fire Dept., Fulton County. He also served in the US. Army in the 101st. Airborne, and later worked as a boilermaker for 30 years and retired in 1994.

Services were held on June 15, 2005 at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation on Tuesday, June 14 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. There was also a military service at the funeral home after the service.

Memorials may be made to Hickory-Kerton Fire Department.
