Alice M. Scovil

1912 - 2006

Kilbourne, IL - Alice M. Blakeley Pratt Scovil, 94, of Petersburg, IL formerly of Kilbourne passed away at 12:25 pm Fri. Aug. 25, 2006 at the Apt. Community of Our Lady of the Snow in Belleville, IL. She was born July 18, 1912 in Kilbourne Twp., Mason County the daughter of Oscar and Anna Keist Blakeley. She married Harold "Babe" Pratt Nov. 22, 1938 in Havana and he died April 10, 1971. She later married Robert Scovil.

Mrs. Scovil was a member of the Kilbourne Baptist Church and the Retired teachers association. She taught school in Hardin, IL from 1931 - 1937, in Bath, IL from 1937 - 1939, at Lakeshore from 1939 - 1944 she then taught at Kilbourne which later became Balyki from 1956 until 1977. She also serviced as a principal in later years. She attended Western Illinois University and Normal Teachers College.

She is survived by one daughter, Marla (Robert) Moore of Swansea, IL’ two grandchildren, Scott (Michelle) Moore and Lisa (Brent) Kohlenberger; three step great grandchildren, Meghan Sullivan, Mallory Sullivan and Mackenzie Sullivan. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Archie Blakeley and two sisters, Hazel Gilmore and Dessie Anderson.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Mon. Aug. 28, 2006 at the Kilbourne Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Abraham Mogerman. Burial will follow in the Kilbourne Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at her church (from noon until 2:00 pm). Memorial Contibutions may be made to the Kilbourne Baptist Church.
