Allegra M. Tinsley

1922 - 2009

Allegra M Tinsley, 87, of Havana passed away at 1:00 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Havana Health Care Center. 

She was born in Tallula, Illinois, on June 4, 1922, the daughter of Troy and Leatha Daniel Carter.  She was the granddaughter of Henry and Lillie Daniel.  She married R. Douglas Tinsley on March 12, 1942, in Hannibal, Missouri.  He is deceased.

Allegra is survived by one daughter, Marsha (Jack) Weddle of Metamora; one grandson Scott (Kimberly) Weddle of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and four great grandchildren, Katherine, Madeline, John and Faith Weddle all of Stevens Point; two brothers, Harold L. Carter and Ronald L. Carter both of Springfield; and one sister ,Janetta F. Gum of Lakeland, Florida; a sister-in-law, Connie (Byron) Zirkle of Bedford, Texas (who she helped raise); and two nephews and two nieces.  She was preceded in death by one brother, Donald F. Carter.

She was the owner of Main Market Grocery Store; and later worked at Brown's Market, Morgan's Red Fox, and Day & Palin IGA all in Havana.

Allegra graduated from Tallula High School in 1940.  She was of the Christian faith, having been baptized in the Christian Church in Tallula.

She was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary; and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 6408, both in Havana.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Havana Food Pantry.
