Allan D. McNeil

1936 - 2006

Havana, IL - Allan D. McNeil, 70, of 210 S. Promenade St., Havana, passed away at 1:30 am Fri. Aug. 25, 2006 at Mason District Hospital in Havana. He was born March 4, 1936 in Decatur, IL the son of Ralph M. and Helen Barnfield McNeil. He married Sharon Minor Feb. 13, 1959 in Havana and she survives.

Mr. McNeil formerly owned Al’s Superway in Havana, operated the Lakewood Supper Club near Bath, IL, the Town House in Havana and had worked for the Order of the Golden Rule. He last worked as an analyst with the State of Illinois, Dept of Insurance. He was Havana’s first Citizen of the year in 1994, past president of the Havana Chamber of Commerce and was elected to three four years terms as mayor of Havana serving from 1989 until 1999.

Allan is survived by two sons, Mitchell Dean and Michael James McNeil both of Havana; two daughters, Sharilyn (Tom) Holtman of Havana, and Angela Sue (Andrew) McNeil-Smith of Hudson, WI; six grandchildren, Chelsea, Chase & Channing Holtman, Delaney and Jordan McNeil and Maggie Smith. Also surviving is one brother, Alton Charles "Chuck" McNeil of Mahomet, IL and one sister, Oma Gayle McNeil of Beardstown, IL. He was preceded in death by one brother, Don and his parents.

Services will be held at 11:00 am Mon. Aug. 28, 2006 at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana conducted by Rev. Danie deBeer. Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Havana. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mason District Hospital expansion fund or the Leiomysaroma Foundation.
