Alvin S. Lehmann
(1915 - 2005)

PLAINS — Alvin Smith Lehmann,
89, of Pleasant Plains died Monday. Aug. 15, 2005. at his
home. He was
born Sept. 6, 1915, in
Springfield.
The son of Lester L. and Helen Lynd
Lehmann. He
married Mary
Robertson-Willis
in 1992.
Mr. Lehmann graduated from
Pleasant
Plains High School in 1932
and received
a 4-H scholarship. He
graduated
from the University of
Illinois in
1936, where he was a
member of
Delta Upsilon fraternity
and Hoof
& Horn Club. He was on
the
livestock judging team and
served as
president of the University of Illinois Agricultural Council.
He
retired as a farmer and livestock
breeder. He
was a breeder, exhibitor and judge of purebred Duroc
swine; and
sold breeding stock.
He was past president of the Illinois Duroc Breeders Association,
general
livestock superintendent of
the Illinois
State Fair and served as
a director
of the Pleasant Plains Elevator Board. He was a member of
St.
Augustine Catholic Church in
Ashland. The
Advisory Board of
Livestock
Commissioners in the
Illinois
Department of Agriculture,
and the
Sangamon County Advisory Committee. He served as president of the Pleasant
Plains School
Board for 15
years. In 2004 he was
awarded the
Pleasant Plains Wall
of Fame
designation for service to
the school
district and the community.
Survivors: wife. Mary: daughter, Carol
Walter of Pleasant Plains;
two
grandchildren; sister. Helen
Francis Van
Poucke of Elgin: and
several
nieces and nephews.
Services: 10 a.m.
Saturday. St.
Augustine
Catholic Church. Ashland, the Father Pat Wright Officiating. Burial: Pleasant
Plains Cemetery.
