Alvin L. Hackman, 86, of Havana, passed away at Havana Health Care Center at 6:48 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011. He was born June 9, 1924 in Mason County to Louie and Edith (Rennecker) Hackman. He married Eloise Copper on September 17, 1947 in Mason City.
Mr. Hackman is survived by one daughter, LaVeta (Gary) Gathman of Havana, one son, Burnell (Kathryn) Hackman of Imperial, MO, four grandchildren, Biff Hackman, Tony (Jeanette) Gathman, Kayelyn Gathman and Andy Gathman. Also surviving are three sisters, Erma Ray of Springfield, Rosalee Bayless of Pekin and Emilie Roos of Havana. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister, Darlene Messman.
Mr. Hackman was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana where he had served as an elder. He was a member of the Mason County Farm Bureau and had served on its Board of Directors. He was a former 4-H Leader, Quiver Township Road Commissioner and a member of Irrigated Growers.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Rev. Martin W. Liebmann Jr. will officiate.
