Arlan Wayne Shoemaker

1925 - 2010

Arlan Wayne Shoemaker, 85, of Havana, passed away at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield at 6:32 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010. He was born February 16, 1925 in Saidora to Clay and Ollie Mae (McDaniel) Shoemaker. He married Wilma Session and she preceded him in death. He married Yvonne M. McCario on January 17, 1963 in Lewistown, IL. She survives.

Mr. Shoemaker is survived by his wife, Yvonne of Havana, one son, Richard (Lynne) Shoemaker of Havana, three daughters, Loni Sue (Paul) Engledow, Lanette (Keith) Armstrong and Lori Smith, all of Havana. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two sisters, Alberta (Earl) Nall and Leona (Dutch) Curry, both of Saidora.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Leo (Twila) Shoemaker.

Mr. Shoemaker was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his children and grandchildren and especially loved to spend time on his boat on the Illinois River with his family. He had worked as a supervisor with IDOT retiring in 1993.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Rev. Duane Turley will officiate.
