East Peoria, IL - Beatrice Friend Vannaken, 87, of East Peoria, IL died at 4:20 pm Sun. April 9, 2006 at Morton Terrace. She was born Sept. 10, 1918 in Kilbourne, IL the daughter of Harry and Minnie Wise Howe. She married Harold Friend who preceded her in death in 1971. She later married Howard Vannaken who proceeded her in death in Feb.

She is survived by one son, Larry Friend of Pekin, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and four sisters, Marcelline Ishmael and Reva Koch both of Petersburg, IL, Shirley Smith of Easton, IL and Mary Huffman of Mason City, IL. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Beverly Shoemaker, one son Ivan Miller, two sisters and two brothers.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services (from 1 until 2 pm). Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Kilbourne, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
