Bertha E. Smith

1920 - 2011

Bertha E. Smith, 90, of Havana, passed away at Havana Health Care Center in Havana at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011. She was born June 22, 1920 in Canton, IL to Ernest E. and Margaretta (Werry) Carper. She married Clayton Junior Mohlman on February 17, 1940 and he preceded her in death on February 28, 1975. She married Harold A. Smith on April 25, 1981 and he preceded her in death on March 27, 1995.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Gene and Neil Mohlman and two daughters, Margaret Mohlman and Jane Huggins, all of Havana and step-daughter Marion (Robert) Kochman of Springfield. Also surviving are five grandsons, David (Rita) Southwood of Huntsville, AL, Jason (Kristie) Frank of Havana, Neil (Tony) Mohlman of Houston, TX, Joseph Huggins of Hudson, FL, James (Tia) Huggins of St. Petersburg, FL, two step-grandsons, Greg Kochman of Springfield and Jeff (Amy) Kerr of Lewistown, six granddaughters, Lisa Southwood of Havana, Jodi DeWitt of Cuba, IL, Rhonda Southwood of Havana, Julie (Bob) Hampton of Lewistown, IL, Debbie Mohlman of California, Rachel (Jay Gonzales) Huggins of Pinellas Park, FL, three step-granddaughters, Shauna (Jay) Jones of Havana, Maureen (Robert) Courtney of Lewistown, IL, Brenda Kochman of Springfield, 24 great grandchildren, four step-great-great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild as well as two nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 2 half brothers, 1 half sister, 1 great-grandson Kevin DeWitt and one daughter, Benita Mohlman.

Graveside services will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Rev. Daniel Swihart will officiate.
