Mary Elizabeth "Bettie" Dierker,
103 years old passed away at 12:55 p.m. at Havana Health Care Center on
Thursday, June 30, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at
2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, IL with
the Rachel Doolin
officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Havana, IL. Visitation
will be held one hour prior to the service.
Bettie was born in Ipava, IL on
January 1, 1908 to Oliver Wesley and Mary Elizabeth (Crick) Stubblefield (who
both preceded her in death). She married Ernest Charles Herman Dierker on
October 12, 1957 and he preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was 1
sister Gladys Mariann Rust and 1 brother Garold Wesley Stubblefield. Bettie is
survived by 1 nephew Paul Oliver Rust (wife Lois), and 4 nieces Elizabeth Ann
"Bettie" Doolin (deceased husband Joseph) and Christena Mae "Tena" Martin
(deceased husband John) all of Jacksonville, IL. Susan Dierker-Becker of rural
Havana, IL and Dianne Onken (husband Bob) of Carbondale, IL. One sister-in-law
Evalina Dierker and many great nephews and nieces. Bettie had a long full life.
Following the example of her parents, Bettie was always active in community and
civic work. Her long and varied career included teaching in Lake Geneva and
Kenosha, Wisconsin, to interior decorating, having her own fashion show when
television was first coming out, and her own fashion business while living in
Chicago, IL in the 40's and 50's.
When Bettie married and moved to
Mason County she was active on the state and regional boards with the opening of
the Mason District Hospital. She was active member in Homemakers Extension,
Havana Woman's Club, Arts Club, Historical and Genealogical Society, Order of
Eastern Star, White Shrine and Central Christian Church.
