William L. "Bill" Fawcett

William L. "Bill" Fawcett, 81, of Havana, passed away at Havana Health Care at 11:35 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2010. He was born May 10, 1929 in Table Grove, IL to Leslie and Bertha (Beleville) Fawcett. He married Mabel Bontjes on December 24, 1946 in Astoria.
Mr. Fawcett is survived by his wife, Mabel, of Havana, two sons, Donald (Jeannie) Fawcett and Dale (Donna) Fawcett, both of Havana, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers, Delbert "Bud" (Wanda) Fawcett of Ipava, Paul (Mary) Fawcett of Fredrick, Leslie (Jane) Fawcett Jr. of Beardstown, Bob (Mary) Fawcett of Havana, Merlin (Connie) Fawcett of Atlanta, GA, two sisters, Susie (Earl) French of Havana and Mary Morrel of Canton. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Mr. Fawcett worked for Crescent Forge and Shovel in Havana for many years and while there, was the financial secretary for the union. He had previously sold Watkins products, run a dairy route and was a mechanic for Petefish Garage. He and his son owned and operated Fawcett Excavating for 10 years. He was an associate member of VFW Post #6408 in Havana.
Funeral services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2010 with visitation one hour prior to the services. Rev. Bill Boyce will officiate. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
