William C. Wendt

1924 - 2007

William C. Wendt, 83, of Havana died at OSF – St. Francis in Peoria at 1:29 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2007. He was born July 14, 1924 in Rural Havana to William C. and Marie (Trimpe) Wendt. He married Elinor M. Yetter August 18, 1951 in Manito, IL. She preceded him in death on May 15, 1997.

Mr. Wendt is survived by one daughter: Linda (Jack) Curless of Havana, and one son: David Wendt of Keokuk, IA, one granddaughter: Morgan Curless of Havana, and one sister: Eileen Stout of Easton. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Wendt was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana. He was a former member of the Mason County Farm Bureau. He was also an avid bowler, earning a spot in the Havana Bowling Hall of Fame.  He was a farmer for forty years, worked at the Havana Public Library for 19 years and drove the Havana Taxi for eleven years.

Funeral services will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana on Wed. November 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Martin W. Leibmann officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
