Robert J. Onken (1931 - 2005) Robert J. Onken, 74, formerly of Mason City died at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy, IL at 6:55 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2005. He was born in Pennsylvania Twp, in Mason County, IL to Fred H. and Florence V. (Bantz) Onken on September 8, 1931. He is survived by: two sons, Robert J. (Barb) Onken of Eureka, MO and Bradley J. Onken of Glouchester, VA; one daughter Gail Ann Bonham of Yorktown, VA, seven Grandchildren; one sister Rosanna Powers of Havana and one brother Frederick “Fritz” (Betty) Onken of Mason City. He was a welder and worked at Sommerville Construction of Peoria. He served in the U.S. Navy in Korea from 1950 to 1954 where he was stationed aboard the USS Midway. He is a lifetime member of the VFW Post #6408 in Havana, the Ansar Shrine in Springfield, IL, the Greenview Masonic Lodge and the Easton United Methodist Church. Services will be Saturday, November 5, 2005 t 11:00 a.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Stephen King and Nash Shawgo will officiate. Burial with military honors by the VFW Post #6408 will be held at Mason City Cemetery following the services. Memorials may be made to Havana VFW Post # 6408 or the IL Veteran’s Home in Quincy. Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of arrangements
