Carl T. Atterberry

1921 - 2010

 

Carl T. Atterberry, 89, of Petersburg passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at his residence. He was born on July 4, 1921 in Oakford to Paul Tade and May M. Miller Atterberry. He married Pauline McLaughlin. She passed away in 1972. He later married Robilee Hood. She passed away in 1999.

 He is survived by two children, Steve (Companion, Joan Castleberry) Atterberry and Charlotte (Victor) Kincaid, all of Petersburg; a brother, David (Audrey) Atterberry of Buffalo, IL; a sister, Margaret Smith of Virginia; four grandchildren, Mark (Brenda) Atterberry of Girard, Kevin Atterberry of Petersburg, Tim Kincaid of Petersburg, and Vicki (Tony) Cruz of Petersburg; seven great grandchildren, Jake and Kayla Gerdes, Jessica Atterberry, Skyler Kovach, Ben and Emma Atterberry, and Leslie Cruz; and one great- great grandchild, Luke McCoy.

 He was preceded in death by both wives; four brothers, Jess, Ralph, George, and Junior Atterberry; and two sisters, Naomi Aden, and Geraldine McDole.

Mr. Atterberry worked for Menard Electric Corp. as general foreman until retiring in 1986, after 38 years of service. He was a US Navy veteran, serving in WWII as a Seabee. He was a member of Petersburg United Methodist Church.

He was an avid collector of pocket watches, clocks, and was a skilled wood worker.

 Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 11:00 am at Petersburg United Methodist Church. Rev. John Vidakovich will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, September 3, 2010 from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
