Carol Chapin

(1917 - 2011)

Carol “Grandma CC” Chapin, 93, of Petersburg, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 5:10 pm at Sunny Acres Home. She was born on April 14, 1917 in Mt. Moriah, MO to Joseph and Sophrania Myrick Carothers. She married Joseph Caldwell on June 7, 1934. He passed away on August 6, 1971. She later married William Chapin on July 28, 1972. He passed away on April 15, 1990.

 

She is survived by daughter, Marlene (Don) Izard of Petersburg; two sons, John (Sue) Caldwell of Warsaw, IN and Dan Caldwell of Lebanon, MO; stepson, Michael Chapin of Sugar Grove, IL; stepdaughter, Marilyn Massey of France; daughter-in-law, Teri Caldwell of Lebanon, MO; son-in-law, Kelly Cawood of Normal, IL; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by both husbands, daughter, Lynne Cawood; grandson, Joseph Ray Caldwell; stepdaughter, Annie Morton; three brothers; and four sisters.

 

Carol had farmed with her husband, Joseph. She was a member of Petersburg United Methodist Church. She was a pilot and had been Mother of the Year for Illinois Flying Farmers. She was also an enthusiastic bridge player and an avid reader.

 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Pastor John Vidakovich will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. There will also be a graveside service at the Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton, MO at 2:30 p.m.
