Carol Cheaney

(1918 - 2010)

 

Carol Cheaney, 91, of Petersburg, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 5:25 pm at Memorial Medical Center. She was born on December 2, 1918 in Greenview to George A. and Jessie L. Swiger Stevens. She married Richard Donald Cheaney on September 22, 1940 in Greenview.

 

She is survived by a son, Richard D. (Phyllis) Cheaney, Jr. of Springfield; a daughter, Bobbie (Nolan) Lipsky of Petersburg; a sister, Helen “Billie” Allen of Augusta, GA; and a grandson, Ryan J. (Fiancée, Christina Leav) of Springfield.

 

Her husband, and two brothers, John Stevens and Loyd Stevens, preceded her in death.

 

She retired in 1994, after nearly 30 years of service with the Illinois State Board of Education. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Free Church in Petersburg. She was also a member of Petersburg Women’s Club and Menard County Historical Society. She enjoyed playing bridge, baking, and being with her family.

 

Memorial services will held on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Evangelical Church in Petersburg. Rev. Dan Roseberry will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service. Cremation rites have been accorded.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Free Church or Donor’s Choice.
