Cynthia H. Wolin 1951 - 2009
Cynthia H. Wolin, 58, of Havana, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Mason District Hospital in Havana at 4:25 a.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2009 following a sudden onset of acute liver failure. She was born March 31, 1951 in Oakland, CA to Charles and Betty (Henss) Hicklin. She married Harry Wolin on July 31, 1977 in Normal, IL. Cindy is survived by her husband, Harry, of Havana, father, Charles Hicklin of Holiday Island, AR and mother, Betty Henss of Normal, IL as well as two beautiful daughters that were the jewel of her life; Sarah (fiancée-Brant Mackey) Wolin of Springfield and Betsy Wolin of Davenport, IA. Also surviving are three sisters, Claudia (Gary) Kaufman of Danvers, IL, Celia Hicklin of Tujunga, CA, Claire (Greg Jarczyski) Fox, of Port Orchard, WA, one brother, Chuck (Amy) Hicklin of Madison, WI and several nieces and nephews. Cindy grew up in Central Illinois and graduated from University High School in Normal, IL in 1969. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Knox College in 1973 and a Masters in Social Work from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in 1979. She also attended Vincennes University where she pursued course work in the field of Catering and Restaurant Management. Cindy was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Havana, where she had been active in the Daughters of the King. She was also the current president of P.E.O. Chapter Y and active in the Mason District Hospital Auxillary. Throughout her life, she loved to volunteer, especially in the communities where she lived. She had worked as a social worker and as a social policy lobbyist. In 1998, she opened the Cup & Saucer restaurant in Havana and cooked and ran its operations until her retirement in 2008. Funeral mass will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, at 420 N. Plum in Havana at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2009. A funeral luncheon will be held at 11:00 a.m., preceding the funeral mass, at the Chester Center at 200 S. McKinley in Havana. Visitation will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mason District Hospital Foundation or to the donor’s choice.
