Clara Margaret Ford

1917 - 2008

Clara Margaret Ford, 91 of Jacksonville, formerly of Petersburg, died at 11:50 pm, Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville.  She was born March 26, 1917, the daughter of Joseph F. and Edna Mae (Slaughter) Claypool in Williamsville, IL.  She married Charles Alvin Ford on May 26, 1943, he preceded her in death.    

 Mrs. Ford was a member of the Petersburg Church of Christ while she lived in Petersburg and had been very involved in The Great American People Show during its time at Lincolns New Salem.  She graduated from Illinois State College in Normal and spent many years teaching at numerous schools including Riverton High School, Auburn, Illiopolis, and Sacred Heart Griffin before her retirement.  

She is survived by her two children, Duane Ford of St.  Petersburg, FL and Rita (husband Robert) Carney of Jacksonville, IL; six grandchildren, Robert N. Carney III, Elizabeth Clare Carney, Brendan K. Carney, Douglas A. Ford, Brian A. Ford, and Renee Ford; and four great grand children.  She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Robert Claypool. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008 at the Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg with Rev. Stan Rodda officiating.  Burial will follow at the Rock Creek Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 9 from 5-7 pm.  Memorial contributions may be left to the New Salem Lincoln League.  Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg is in charge of arrangements.
