Clara Gum

1920 - 2008

Clara Gum, 88, of Petersburg, died on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 1:02 pm at Sunny Acres Home in Petersburg. She was born on March 23, 1920 in South Bend, IN, to Leon and Constance Janowiak Piechorowski. She married Billy R. Gum Sr. they later divorced.

She is survived by four sons, Tom (wife Pat) Gum of Athens, David (wife Penny) Gum of Portage, IN, Roger (wife Teena) Gum of Petersburg, and Billy (wife Jana) Gum Jr. of Springfield; one daughter, Patty (husband Charles) Servis of Havana; fifteen grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by three sisters, Virginia Floor of South Bend, IN, Josephine (husband Marcel) Coryn of Mishawaka, IN and Betty Lou Harmon of Indiana.

A daughter, Mary Gosa; a brother, Frank; and five sisters, Harriet, Sophie, Irene, Eleanor and Esther, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Gum was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Petersburg and a past member of the Petersburg Women’s Club.

Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 7, 2008 from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm at the Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Petersburg, IL.

Memorial contributions made to St. Peter Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
