John H. "Corky" McGrew
1925 - 2011

John H. “Corky” McGrew, 85, of Havana, passed away at Havana Health Care Center
at 12:03 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2011. He was born September 21, 1925 in
Bath to Willard and Iva Marie (VanEtten) McGrew. He married Anna Lou Euteneuer
in September 10, 1949. She survives.
Mr. McGrew is survived by his wife, Anna Lou, of Havana and one son, Mark McGrew
and his partner Daniel Matson of Glendale, CA. Also surviving are two sisters,
Ilda Snowden of Monmouth, IL and Nellie Quinn of Davenport, IA and numerous
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers,
W.R. “Bill” (Eileen) McGrew of Pekin, IL and Burel (Edna) McGrew of Havana.
Mr. McGrew was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana. He was also a
member of Havana Rotary, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, Ducks Unlimited, VFW
and American Legion. He had served the Havana community for many years on the
Spoon River College and Mason District Hospital Boards of Directors. He served
in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater. Corky started his career with Preston
Funeral Home in Pekin, IL and later worked with Fred C. Euteneuer as partner in
Eutereuer & McGrew Insurance, now a part of Snedeker Risk Management in Havana,
IL. He had also served on the Board of Directors of the State Bank of Havana for
many years.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana at 1:00
p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011. Visitation will be held at the Hurley
Funeral Home in Havana on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Burial will
follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Rev. Martin W. Liebmann
will officiate.
