W. Dale Whisnant 1914 - 2008
W. Dale Whisnant, 94, of Tallula, died on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 12:25 a.m. at Menard Convalescent Center. He was born on March 15, 1914 in Bethany, IL to Earl Olan and Lucy Drake Whisnant. He married Mary Alice Spears on June 14, 1939. She passed away on November 25, 1965. He later married Lois Wilson Thompson on September 18, 1967. She passed away on April 12, 2004. He is survived by a son, Garth (Patty) Whisnant of Tallula; a daughter, Marilyn (Ted) Babcock of Rochester; two stepsons, Jim (Sandy Easdale) Thompson of Chatham, and Gary (Caroline) Thompson of Madison, Wisconsin; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, & cousins. He was preceded in death by both wives; a son, Ronald Gene Whisnant; one sister; three brothers; and a stepdaughter, Sharon Wilson. Mr. Whisnant graduated from the University of Illinois with
a degree in music and English. He was a teacher for five years. He then was a
farmer for 41 years until retirement.
Mr. Whisnant was a member of the Tallula Christian Church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Tallula Christian Church. Rev. Wayne Meyer will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Tallula.
