Daniel Lee Harris
1952-2011
Daniel Lee Harris, 58, of Mason City, formerly from Havana and Delavan, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, IL. He was born January 17, 1952 in Pekin, IL to Calvin C. and Hazel L. (Griffin) Harris. He grew up in the Green Valley/Delavan area.
Dan married Patricia A. (Thompson) on September 19, 1970. She survives. Also surviving are their two sons, Russell L. (Angela) Harris and James E. (Carson) Harris both of Mason City. There are six grandchildren, Cody, Taylor, Emily, Cole, Amy and Alyson. He is also survived by one brother, John E. (Marcia) Harris of Delavan and one sister, Linda L. (Larry) Gouveia of Pekin. Many nieces, nephew, cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Dan was active in the trucking industry for over forty years. Starting in the U.S. Army then working for his Uncle Howard in Griffin Trucking, Ruan Transport, Morton Buildings and working with his father in Harris Pest Control. In 1986, Dan and Pat purchased Earl Tucker Trucking in Mason City. They later changed the name to Mason County Transfer. In 2005 the family started Midwest Wheel Polishers.
Dan was a member of the Mason City Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. Dan enjoyed traveling with his wife, woodcarving, spending time with his family, working in his truck shop, going on wheel runs and spending time with his friends, especially his close friends, Randy Brownfield, Jerry Nelson and Luke Coriell. He will be missed by many for his quick wit and sense of humor.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City. Pastor Joe Briseno will officiate. Burial will be at Mason City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 5, 2011 from 5-7 at Hurley Funeral Home. Memorials may be left to the Convoy for Kids Truck Show where the donations will be made to St. Jude’s. Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of arrangements.
