Delbert Newton

(1921 -2010)

Delbert R. Newton, 89, of Petersburg, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 7:40 pm at Sunny Acres Home. He was born on May 30, 1921 in Rockford, to Edgar and Josie Emery Newton. He married Catherine Ann Curry in Rochelle, IL on March 6, 1943.

 

He is survived by five sons, Dr. David (Penny) Newton of Petersburg, John (Mary Ann) Newton of Tampa, FL, Thomas (Diane) Newton of Streamwood, Timothy (Judy) Newton of Springfield, and Dr. Sean (Ann) Newton of Springfield; a daughter, Susan (John) Moore of Rockford; sixteen grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother, and a sister.

 

Mr. Newton had worked as a machinist in Rockford. He also worked as a custodian for National Bank of Petersburg. He also assisted his wife with a die workshop 

 

He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Petersburg. He had also been a previous volunteer at New Salem State Park, portraying Dr. Allen.

 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Peter Catholic Church in Petersburg. The family will be greeting visitors from 10:00 am till 11:00 am.
