Frank "Doc" Buchanan
1920 - 2011
Frank F. “Doc” Buchanan Jr., 90, of Havana, passed away at Mason District
Hospital in Havana at 10:12 p.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2011. He was born
March 10, 1920 in Oakford, IL to Frank F. and Mable (Thomas) Buchanan Sr. He
married Barbara Sours in Havana on March 31, 1957.
Mr. Buchanan is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Rome, IL, three sons, Terry
Buchanan, Gary (Doris) Buchanan, both of Springfield, David (Bobbie) Buchanan of
Rome, IL, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one brother, James
Buchanan of Shannon, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and two
sisters, Esther Gum and Nina Holmes.
Mr. Buchanan served in the US Army, 7th infantry, from 1941 until
1944, serving in the Aleutian Islands, Philippines and at Okinawa. He worked for
CI & M Railroad, the Uptown Garage in Springfield and owned the Standard Station
in Havana. He retired in 1986 from Horace Mann in Springfield.
Funeral services will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana at 2:30 p.m.
on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 with visitation two hours prior to the services.
Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Warren Hughes
will officiate.
