Donald “Donnie” Larry Cox, 69, of Pleasant Plains, IL, died Sunday March 26, 2006 at Memorial medical Center in Springfield, IL.
He was born April 6, 1936 in Virginia Il, to Paul and Fern Money Cox. He married Waltraud “Wally” Roederer on October 8, 1992 in Virginia, IL.
Mr. Cox was a construction laborer for the Local Laborers Union #477, retiring after 28 years. He was a member of the Heartland Saddle Club in Beardstown, IL and the Tallula Sportsmans Club. He was also active with the AF&AM Clinton Lodge #19, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Springfield, the Ansar Shriners, Illinois Valley Shrine Club, and the Keystone cops. Mr. Cox served in the Marine Corp from 1956 until 1959.
He is Survived by his wife Wally; two step sons, Thomas (wife Susan) Skaggs of Petersburg and Eric Skaggs of Oakford; eight step grand children, Ashley, Amber, T.J., Abby, Anna, Ty, Emily, and Sayre Skaggs. He is also survived by a brother, Richard (wife Jackie) Cox of Dunlap, Il; four sisters, Jo Ann Megredy and Barbara (husband Jim) Masten, both of Tallula, and Marilyn (husband Art) Brown and Linda (husband Jim) Hughes, both od Springfield. Many nieces and nephews, including Roseanna Cox of Springfield, whom he raised, also survive him. One brother preceded him in death.
Visitation for Mr. Cox will be Wednesday, March 29 from 5 to 7 PM at the Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, IL. His funeral service will be Thursday, March 30 at 11:00 AM at the Tallula Christian Church, burial will follow in the Garner Chapel Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to his family to assist with expenses. Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, IL is in charge of arrangements.
