Douglas Thomas

Douglas Thomas, 63, of Petersburg, died on November 17, 2008 at 2:00 am at his residence. He was born on February 6, 1945 in Oakford to Winfred and Vivian Fry Thomas. He married Elinor “Kay” Powell.

  He is survived by a son, Gary Alan (Katrina) Thomas of Kangaroo Valley, Australia; two step daughters, Kathy Goebel of Springfield and Kelly Smith of Springfield; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Julius Thomas of Petersburg; and three sisters, Carol Cowan of Green Valley, Janet Barnes of Petersburg, and Adaline Woolsey of Salisbury.

  One sister, and one granddaughter preceded him in death.

  He was a veteran of the US Army, and served in Vietnam. He was a member of Tallula Sportsmen Club, a life member of the VFW and AMVETS, and a 40-year member of IBEW.

  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 11:30 am at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Rev. Clint Cook will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
