Rolland Lee "Dutch" Van Cleave

1921 - 2006

Havana, IL - Rolland Lee Roy "Dutch" Van Cleave, 85, of 727 E. Washington St., Havana, IL died at 3:50 pm Sun. July 23, 2006 at the Mason District Hospital in Havana. He was born June 29, 1921 in Malta, Montana the son of Jessie N. And Eva Metcalf Van Cleave. He married Muriel Louise Miller Oct. 19, 1943 in Waukegan, IL and she survives.

He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy from 1940 until 1946. He helped organize Little League Baseball in Havana, was a member of the Havana Rural Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, a lifetime member of Havana Post #6408 VFW, a leader of Explorer Boy Scouts and a member and very active in his church, The First Baptist Church in Havana. Mr. Van Cleave worked for Illinois Power in Havana from 1947 until he retired in 1983 as a plant supervisor.

Surviving is one daughter, Patricia (Robert) Strube of Morton, IL; one son, Kenneth (Patricia) Van Cleave of Lincoln, NE; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one brother, Alvin (Joan) Van Cleave of New Boston, NH and one sister, Joyce (Warren) Anderson of Sun Lakes, AZ. He was preceded in death by one brother, James.

Services will be held at 11:00 am Sat. July 29, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Havana conducted by Rev. Ronald Ricketts and Pastor Dave Byrd. Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Havana. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 pm Friday at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana.
