Dwight George Shaw 1926 - 2009
Dwight George Shaw, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully Sunday, December 13, 2009 at age 83. His family takes comfort knowing he is celebrating in Heaven with Jesus and loved ones. Dwight was born August 26, 1926, to Edward Shaw and Neva Pedigo Shaw and was a lifelong resident of Havana, Illinois. Dwight was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the Asia-Pacific Theater returning to Havana following his tour of duty. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company after over 30 years of service. During his retirement he enjoyed wood carving, fishing, and square dancing. Dwight was a warmhearted person with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his lips. A gentle man, he had a delightful sense of humor and is fondly remembered for his witty under-the-breath comebacks. He attended the Waterford Union Church near Lewistown Dwight was blessed with and enjoyed the love and marriage of two wonderful women but was preceded in death by both; his wife of 26 years and mother of his children, Doris Van Hoorn Shaw; and his second wife of 24 years Dorothy Woodley Shaw. He was also sadly preceded in death by his son George Shaw, grandson Jeffery Shaw, daughter-in-law Karen O’Bryant Shaw, and his six brothers and a sister. He is survived by his children, Donald (Fern) Shaw (Phoenix, AZ), Donna (Larry) Bierschank (Columbia, SC), Rick (Pattie) Cave (Thornton, CO), and George’s wife Arlene Shaw (Havana, IL); Dorothy’s children, Melanie (Randy) Lindsey (Havana, IL), and Sanda (Ed) Collins (LaSalle, IL); and his sister Louise Danner. In addition, he is survived by fourteen grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. He is loved dearly and will be missed greatly by all of his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dwight’s memory can be made to the Havana Area Community Emergency Food Bank, 228 ˝ S. Broadway Street, Havana, IL 62644. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, IL on Thursday, December 17th in the evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Veteran Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana,IL with Pastor Deb Bryant officiating. |
