Eddie Evemeyer

(1926 - 2006)

    Eddie Joe Evemeyer, 79, of Petersburg, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at his home. He was born September 4, 1926 in Murrayville, IL, the son of Verlin and Muriel Faye Ketner Evemeyer. He married Norma Olinger and they had two children, Jimmy Evemeyer  of Los Angeles, CA, and Barb (Rodney) Cunningham of Springfield.  Later he married Evelyn Boone in Springfield, IL. They had one child, Della (Michael) Gondek of Petersburg.

     Ed graduated from Jacksonville High School and from Western University in Macomb, IL. He taught in Illinois grade schools and high schools. He was also a teacher and coach at Danville Area Community College for eleven years. He taught school for a total of 25 years. He then worked for Teachers Retirement Systems for thirteen years and retired from there on March 31, 1987.

     Ed is a US Army Veteran of World War II.  He received a Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He was a member of the Shambolee Golf Club for many years. His hobbies were playing golf and working in his wood working shop.

      Ed is survived by his wife, his three children, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

      Services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. Pastor Dan Roseberry will be officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

      Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
