Edsel Thomas 

(1923 - 2009)

Edsel Andrace Thomas, 86, of Petersburg, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 7:00 pm at his residence. He was born on February 4, 1923 in Oakford to Ulysses and Lula Nissen Thomas. He married Betty Showalter on December 21, 1946.

He is survived by two sons, Michael (Annette) Thomas of Petersburg, and Kevin (Nancy) Thomas of Oakford; a sister, Maren (Don) Wood of Bloomington; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother.

Mr. Thomas was a farmer. He served in the US Navy Sea Bees, during WWII, stationed in the South Pacific. He was also a member of New Lebanon Baptist Church of Kilbourne, where he had served on the church board.  He was on the Menard County Fair Board for 20 years.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 11:00 am at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Rev. Jon Bormann will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakford Cemetery.
