Elmo Watkins

1911 - 2008

Elmo Watkins, 96, of Petersburg, died on Monday, April 14, 2008 at 4:35 am at Sunny Acres Home in Petersburg. He was born on June 6, 1911 in St. Louis, MO to John D. and Anna Kinsman Watkins. He married Stella Marie Miller in Rock Island on June 8, 1964. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by two sons, David (Maxine)Watkins of Sauget, IL, and Grant Watkins of Belleville, IL; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

His wife, parents, one brother, and four sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Watkins had owned and operated Dixie Barbeque in East St. Louis and Springfield, and also Parkmore Restaurant in Springfield. He was a member of the St. Louis – Wildey Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #2. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII.  He later worked as a truck driver.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Pastor Bob Shook will be officiating.

Memorials may be made to Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
