Emily Jane Penewitt
(1909-2007)
Emily Jane Penewitt,
97, died January 13, 2007 in
Placerville , California where she had been living
with her daughter since 2002.
She was born February
13, 1909 in Mason County to Addison and Olive Lynn. She
married Emmer Penewitt on April 11, 1927. She had two
daughters, Martha Vivian and Alice May. She is survived by
one daughter Alice Henry and several nieces and nephews as
she was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband
and one daughter.
She and her husband
were engaged in farming, but she also clerked in a number of
local grocery stores and for Brinner Brothers Hardware.
During the latter part of her life she was the Executive
Secretary for the Mason County Health Improvement
Association. She was a member of the United Presbyterian
Church and a life long member of the Order of the Eastern
Star where she served in many of the chairs. She was also a
member of the Jackson-Keen Post Women’s Auxiliary, the
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Salt Creek
Prairie Chapter DAR, and numerous other organizations and
committee’s throughout her lifetime.
Funeral services will
be held on Saturday January 20, 2007 at 11:00am at Hurley
Funeral Home in Mason City . Officiating will be Rev. Randy
Paine. Visitation will be Friday January 19, 2007 from 5pm
to 7pm. Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery .
Memorial contributions
may be made to the Mason City Area Nursing Home or the Mason
City United Presbyterian Church.
