Eric D. Bitner
(1949-2011)
Eric Bitner, 61, of Mason City died at 4:35pm on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln. He was born on August 7, 1949 the son of Loren and Zelma (Ferguson) Bitner in Springfield. He married Teresa Jones on October 19, 1990, she survives.
Survivors are three daughters: Terra Nelson of Lincoln, Charity Bitner of Lincoln, Abby Joseph of North Carolina. Also surviving is a brother: Mark (Tammy) Bitner; a mother in law: Linda Jones; three brothers in laws: Tom (Pat) Root, Frank (Kathy) Root, Kenneth (Jeanette) Jones; a sister in law: Pam (Bob Brooks) Johnson, and nine grandchildren: Mitchell and Stephanie Nelson, David Mester III, Vincent Henderson, Madison Mester, Eric and Jaxson Joseph, Alexandra and Kimberly Bitner; a cousin: Van (Debbie) Bitner; five nephews, one niece and one great nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Bitner graduated from Mason City High School, class of 1967. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969-1971 during Vietnam. He was formerly employed by Caterpillar, Inc. starting in 1968, retiring in 1998. He was currently working for Bergman Farms. He was a member of the Jackson-Keen Post #496 where he served as past Commander.
Services will be at 11:00am on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City, visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5-7. Nash Shawgo will officiate. Memorials may be left to Jackson-Keen Post Flag Fund.
