Ernest "Ernie" King

1933 - 2008

Ernest “Ernie” Murray King of Tallula, died on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 7:35 a.m. at his residence. He was born on April 28, 1933 in Chandlerville, IL to Ernest Ewell and Rita Doris Babb King. He married Lois Arlene Mason of Michigan City, Indiana on April 13, 1958 in Chandlerville.

He graduated from Petersburg Harris High School in 1951. He had served as Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1953. He worked for 30 years at Allis Chalmers, later Fiat-Allis, and had worked for 10 years for the Illinois Developmental Center in Lincoln.

He is survived by his wife, Lois of Tallula; four children, daughter, Cynthia (Jeff) Eicher of Petersburg, daughter, Sandra (Jim) Sinclair of Petersburg, son, Jim (Mary Beth) King of Oakford, and daughter Laury (Jim) Blake of Tallula; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Wanda) King of Oakford, and Buddy (Jane) King of Tallula; a sister, Sue (John) Sinclair of Tallula; as well as several nieces and nephews.

His parents, Ernest Ewell and Rita Doris King both of Tallula, preceded him in death.

He loved spending time in his garden, was a regular at area auctions, garage sales, and flea markets. He was devoted to his family and always ready to lend a hand to neighbors in need.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 11:00 am at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Farmer’s Point Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tallula Volunteer Fire Department and the Tallula BLS.
