Eugene L. Hackman, 94, of Havana, passed away at his home in Havana, IL at 1:48 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2012. He was born February 27, 1918 in Havana to Arnold and Elsie (Bortell) Hackman. He married Julia Virginia Hickman on September 7, 1940 in Kahoka, MO.
Mr. Hackman is survived by one son, Arnold E. Hackman of the Phillipines, and is also survived by four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Mr. Hackman is preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Elsie (Bortell) Hackman, his wife Julia Virginia (Hickman), three children Judith A. Gleason, Rose Mary Hackman, and Clifford Hackman. He is also preceded in death by five brothers Robert, Vernon, Dale, Arnold, Paul, and one sister Vera Hackman.
Eugene was a member of St. Paulís Lutheran Church and a member of the VFW Post 6408 in Havana. He also served in the United States Army during World War 2. Mr. Hackman drove for Borden Milk for 20 years and retired from Havana High School as a bus driver and janitor.
Services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation an hour before. Pastor Wesley Reimnitz will officiate. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery near Havana.
