Harold Everitt

1919-2010
Harold Wilbur Everitt, 97, of Frankfort, IN, formerly of Mason City, IL, died August 16, 2010 at Wesley Manor in Frankfort.
The funeral will be 10:00 AM, Sat., August 21, 2010 at the Mason City, Illinois, United Methodist Church. Calling with be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City on Friday. Burial will be at Mason City Cemetery.
Mr. Everitt was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Frankfort. He attended high school at Easton, IL, and was a 1939 graduate of Indiana Central College (now University of Indianapolis). He also attended Indiana University as a graduate student. In 1960, he received a National Science Grant to the Summer Institute in Mathematics at Univ. of California, Davis.
He was a very active lay person in the Evangelical United Brethren Church (now United Methodist Church). He served in positions at both the district and conference levels for many years. He was an Illinois Conference representative on the Board of Trustees of the University of Indianapolis from 1955-1967. He was a long-time member of the Easton, IL Optimist Club, active with the Mason County Illinois 4-H Fair, CROP (Christian Rural Overseas Program), American Cancer Society drives, and many other civic activities.
Mr. Everitt first taught school at Lancaster, IN and Williams, IN. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II, where he was a First Lieutenant and served as a field artillery instructor. He returned to Illinois in 1944 to teach for several years at Easton Community High School, where he also served as principal. He started teaching at Mason City, IL in 1959 and remained there for 17 yrs. until retirement. Upon his return to Illinois in 1944, he also farmed the family farm.
In 1995 he moved to Wesley Manor in Frankfort, IN. He spent winters at Clerbrook Resort at Clermont, FL for many years. He was very active in his later years, playing golf through his 95th birthday. He will be remembered especially for his wit and humor, his willingness to always help others, and his love of traveling.
Born April 21, 1913, in Mason Co., IL, Mr. Everitt was the son of John Huston Everitt and Myra Webb Everitt. He married Agnes G. Dawson of Princeton, IN on Nov. 20, 1941. After her death in March of 1988, he married Nelle Matson Williams of Logansport, IN and she survives.
He also is survived by a daughter, Mary Sue Stone of Columbus, IN and a son, John Thomas Everitt of Indianapolis, IN; six grandchildren: Tamara Stone Iorio of Columbus, Eric Everitt Stone of Albuquerque, NM, Gregory P. Stone of Houston, TX, Ryan Everitt of Brooklyn, NY, Carrie Everitt McClelland of Indianapolis, IN and Emily M. Everitt of Indianapolis; and six great-grandchildren; step-sons: Jon Williams of Goleta, CA and Garry Williams of Logansport, IN; step-grandchildren Emily Williams of Goleta, CA. and Jennie, Wyatt, and Matthew Williams of Logansport; and a sister, Ruby McClarnon Childs of Warren, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Agnes; and sisters: Thelma Everitt, Elsie Longenbaugh, and Opal Skaggs.
