George A. Doggett

(1918 - 2005)

 

George A. Doggett, 87, of Mason City passed away at 1:25 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at Pekin Manor Nursing Home.

 

He was born on January 1, 1918, in Mason City to John R. Doggett and Flora Chapin Doggett.  He and his mother made their home with Fred and Anna Fletcher.  He married Wilma G. Pottorf on May 29, 1938 in Mason City.  She survives.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Ronald Jon.

 

Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy (Robert) Clow of Tremont, Illinois and Luana Sue (Alan) Knollenberg of Hanna City, Illinois, six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

 

Mr. Doggett was a lifelong resident of Mason City, serving several times as a city alderman and later as a member of the Mason City Fire Protection District Board of Trustees.  He was a member of the Mason City Presbyterian Church and served on various administrative boards and committees of the church.  He was a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge of Mason City. He retired from Caterpillar in 1981 after 40 years, serving mainly in the research department.

 

George delivered Meals on Wheels in Mason City, was a Bull Shooter at the Mason City Nursing Home, provided transportation to cancer patients for treatments and served on the Committee for Aging.

 

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mason City Presbyterian Church. Rev. Randall Paine will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at his church.  Burial will be in the Mason City Cemetery.

 

Memorials may be made to The Mason City Presbyterian Church, The Alzheimer’s Foundation or Harbor Lights Hospice.
