George Francis Niemeier

1919 - 2007

George Francis Niemeier, 88, of Tallula, died on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born on June 12, 1919 in Tallula to Cobus and Ethel Clark Niemeier. He married Margaret Johnson on September 16, 1939 in Petersburg.

He is survived by two daughters, Janet (Charles) Morgan of Petersburg, and Kathleen (Steve) Smith of Tallula; five grandsons, Justin (Gena) Morgan, John (Shari) Morgan, Samuel Morgan, George Smith, and Ira Smith; three grand daughters, Maggie Morgan, Amy (Christopher) Robb, and Emily Smith; four great grandchildren, Cobus, Elias, and Benjamin Morgan, and Jon Mark Robb; and several nieces and nephews.

His wife, and two brothers preceded him in death.

Mr. Niemeier was retired from Menard County as Road Commissioner for District 7. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains. He served on Tallula High School Board of Education, and Tallula Elementary School Board of Education.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 10:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains. Rev. Don Pritchard will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 30, 2007 from 5:00 pm till 7:30 pm at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.
