George Schnieder, Jr. 1926 - 2008 Manito, IL - George Schneider, Jr, 81 of Manito passed away at
11:00 pm Friday, May, 2, 2008 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. He was born
August 22, 1926 in Chicago to George and Betty Holland Schneider, Sr. He married
Fern S. Starnes Long Dec. 23, 1992 in Havana and she survives. Mr. Schneider was of the Catholic faith, a veteran of WWII
serving in the US Army, and a member of Havana Post #6408 VFW. He worked for
over 30 years for the Lockheed Corp. in California and Saudi Arabia as a master
painter and instructor. He later worked for 19 years for the Field Museum in
Chicago as a painter, painting the displays for the museum. A very talented
person who loved his God, his country and his family, he spoke five languages,
English, German, Arabic, Spanish and Italian. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Kim
(Bruce) Hoessly of Gig Harbor, WA; one grandson and one granddaughter; two
sisters, Marge Page of Carol Stream, IL and Mary Ann (Bob) Leossy of Mt.
Prospect, IL and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one
sister.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Wed. May 7, 2008 at the Hurley Funeral Home in
Havana, IL conducted by Chaplain Larry Estep of Havana Post #6408 VFW. Burial
will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Havana. Visitation will be held one hour
prior to the service on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to VFW
