George J. Shaw 1949 - 2007
Havana, IL - George J. Shaw, 58, of Havana, IL passed away at
his home on Sat., Dec. 8, 2007. He was born July 24, 1949 in Canton, IL the son
of Dwight and Doris VanHoorn Shaw. He married Arlene Horrighs Feb. 1, 1975 in
Springfield, IL and she survives. His mother preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Arlene, three children; Jennifer
(John) Muzika of Newberry, SC, Jeffrey (Jeannine) Shaw of Clermont, FL, and
Cynthia (Matthew) Hunt of Orlando, FL. Six grandchildren; Kathy Muzika, 20,
Darrian Shaw,13, Zachary Muzika,5, Jessamine Shaw, 4, Jailynne Shaw, 1, and baby
Hunt to be born May 2008. One great grandson, Michael, 10 months, also survives.
He is also survived by one sister, Donna (Larry) Bierschank of Columbia, SC, two
brothers, Don (Fern) Shaw of Phoenix, AZ and Rick Cave of Thornton, CO, his
father, Dwight (Dorothy) Shaw of Havana and eighteen nieces and nephews. George grew up in Havana and had recently returned after 28
years in Florida. He had been an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Orlando, serving 12 years as Sunday School Superintendent and 4 years
as Director of the Fellowship Board. He was attending St. Paul’s Lutheran Church
in Havana. He was an avid Cub fan and formerly very active in the Jaycees. He
had most recently worked as Assistant Director of Security at the Hyatt Regency
Grand Cypress in Orlando where he worked for 18 years before retiring and moving
back to Havana. Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 at
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana conducted by Pastor Martin W. Liebmann.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Wednesday at the Hurley Funeral
Home in Havana. Following the services on Thursday family and friends will
gather at the family’s home for lunch. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to Boy’s Farm, P.O. Box 713, Newberry SC 29108 (boysfarm.org). Online
