Harold E. Palmer

1930 - 2011

Harold E. Palmer, 81, of Havana, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 01, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born February 10, 1930 in Mason County, IL to Clyde and Mildred (Williams) Palmer. He married Carole A. Tarvin on April 28, 1951 in Sikeston, MO.

Harold is survived by Carole, his wife of 60 years and five children, Elizabeth (Brian) Bohannon of Lewistown, Peggy (David) Naff of Rushville, Dianne Palmer of Egg Harbor, WI, Karen (Mike) Snedeker and Randall (Becky) Palmer, both of Havana. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one nephew, Steve Tarvin.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Irene Tarvin.

He served in the Illinois National Guard 44^th Division, Battery B and was stationed on active duty in Camp Cooke, CA during the Korean War. Harold retired from Illinois Power Company after 35 years of service. In his retirement, he owned and operated Floral Design in Havana with his wife, served on the Havana City Council, enjoyed time spent with his family in Door County, WI, and enjoyed playing his guitar for church services and for friends and family. He was a member of the Havana Church of Christ where he served in numerous positions including, elder, board chairman and Sunday School Teacher.

Visitation will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana on Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be Monday, December 5, 2011 at the Havana Church of Christ at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
