Harry Jackson Jr

(1926-2010)

Harry Jackson Jr., 84, of Mason City, IL, passed away at St. John’s Hospital on November 30, 2010 at 11:53 a.m.  Harry was born in Wyanet, IL on February 14, 1926 to Harry and Bertha Thompson Jackson.   He married JoAnne Bloh on January 3, 1954 in Mason City, IL.  She survives. 

He is also survived by one son; Randy (Janet) Jackson of Mason City, two daughters; Patty (Ben King) Hoagland, of Ft. Collins, CO. and Debbie (Michael) Liccar of Crete, IL,  six grandchildren and one great grandchild.  Also surviving is one sister Marie Stapleton of Peoria and two brothers, Willard (Lois) Jackson of East Peoria and Robert (Shirley) Jackson of Canoga Park, CA.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Lorene Blair and one grand daughter Jacy Hoagland. 

Harry has farmed in Mason County for 55 years.  He was a member and elder at the United Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of Jackson Keen Post #496.  He volunteered at the nursing home as a bull shooter.  He served on the School Board and was a past member and board member of the Mason County Farm Bureau.  Harry was also an avid Bridge player. 

Harry served in the United States Marine Corp during WWII.  While serving in the South Pacific he was wounded in Okinawa and received a purple heart.  He then finished his tour of duty by serving with occupation forces in Japan as an MP.   In June of 2010 he and other WWII Veterans participated in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. 

Funeral services will be held on December 3, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Church officiated by Pastor Charlotte Poetschner at 11:00 a.m.  Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home on Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the United Presbyterian Church on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.  Cremation Rites will be accorded after the service.  Memorials may be made to the United Presbyterian Church.
